SuperNationals IV: K-3 and K-6 Section Winners

In my Scholastic Chess column this month at ChessCafe, we hear from Cameron Wheeler, who won the K-3 section of the recent SuperNationals, and from Daniel Gurevich, winner of the K-6 section. Each has an interesting story to tell and they both contributed an annotated game for our readers.

SuperNationals IV has concluded, and comprehensive results are posted here. As of this writing, they haven't yet included the "biggest upset" in the results - hopefully that will be available shortly.

SuperNationals IV Update

If you're not already set for SuperNationals in Nashville (April 3-5), here are some phone numbers that may be of use:

As of this writing, it appears that free tickets (while they last) will be available for the Kasparov lecture at 3 PM Saturday. Tickets will be available, I'm told, at the bookstore in Ryman Exhibit Hall B1.

SuperNationals Simuls

Over at Chess Life Online, Jennifer Shahade has posted a phenomenal schedule of simultaneous exhibitions to be given by some of the biggest chess names on U.S. soil, at the upcoming SuperNationals tournament. This event may well be the most spectacular chess tournament, everything considered, ever to occur in the U.S.

SuperNationals IV Getting Closer!

April 3 is when the 4th edition of the SuperNationals begins!

What are the SuperNationals? The United States Chess Federation, the governing body for chess in the country, promotes the development of scholastic chess programs and sponsors national competitions. Every four years the three spring national events – elementary, junior high and high school – are hosted in one location.

In April 2005, more than 5,300 students - and approximately 15,000 people in all - gathered in Nashville, Tennessee for the largest scholastic tournament in history. This record will be shattered at the Gaylord Opryland Resort in April of 2009!
